Well now the new server and site is set up, I thought it would be good to reflect on some of the good old times that DS-Scene has had over the years, if some of you can remember what the site used to look like when you look at some of these then pat yourselves on the back! You are an honory member of DS-Scene and a true old timer

Anyway let's get the show started with a real blast from the past, these images were dug up from old debug shots me and Triforce used to send to eachother. Some of the more recent images are as the site was when people used to view it.


DS-Scene - A mild conception
29th January 2006



Take a look at this image and is there any guessing what it could be? It's not that hard to guess I know but yes, it is DS-Scene as it was when it was first created by Triforce and myself! You can see it's clean shaveness and it's sheer lack of dedication to give you what you demand from it nowadays. We went for orange skin the first time around (it's my favourite colour) perhaps that was a bit of a bad choice, I will let you comment on that. This site had a skin selection and we were to implement new skins in the future. The recent users box is actually under construction in this image if that gives you any indication of the incompleteness of the site.


DS-Scene - Famicomified
15th February 2006



Here is the next skin that we put in for the site, there were a few major changes to the features of the site going on. In the image you can see me working on the signatures and look at that awful options box to select your bbtags. There was also a major skin change which was meant to have a bit if a Famicom feel about it. The site still did not quite cut the mustard after a while and looking back at it now I actually prefer the orange site. We also got sick of it then so we soon had start thinking along different lines. We also started playing with logo's  a little bit more before adding....


DS-Scene - Animated Banners: WTF?!

I started playing with flash a bit as you can see and made a few banners for the top of the site. The Flash animations appeared at the top of the DS-Scene page (yes every page). When you first loaded the site, you were given a random banner from the 3 which remained during your visit at the site. On your next visit you may have got a different banner.

These were far too larger for people to be loading every time they loaded the site so they were soon scrapped. They were fun while they lasted though and I hope you enjoy watching them today.

We also added the faithful DS-Scene clock that appears at the top right of your screen to this day.


DS-Scene - Boosted
3rd April 2006



New banners were in and were happy with them at the time so we boosted DS-Scene with a whole new look for the rest of the site again. We added a much needed forum which you can see is actually under construction in this image shown here. These were fun days and the site really started to shape up a bit. As you can see it took a few changes to get to a happy medium where we would stick and there were still a big changes yet to come. Finally though, the site began to function slightly as forum which, was never the intention in the first place to be totally honest with you.


DS-Scene - The Loved One
20th June 2007



Here we had the forum completeed and members could post, we had removed the animated banners by this time and we had been through more optimisations than anything else as far as the looks were concerned for the site.It was time to iron all those creases out and get everything running smoothly and bug free. It was shortly after this that the DS-Scene Download section opened along with a server change and we also became known as DS-Scene.net. Soon afterwards we noticed the numbers start growing and review kits were on the horizon. We were building relationships with certain people but certain unmentioned people began to start throwing acusations of us copying others work and such. We also watched as competition sites began to mimic the site that we had worked so hard to achieve. The work for posting news began to build up and I myself really start to feel the pressure coming on so it was time to take on some staff.

This new phase also brought the most important part of DS-Scene which was totally out of our control and that's you, the users. Each one of you helps to make DS-Scene what it is today with your comments  and posts you make and on behalf of everyone working at DS-Scene, we would like to thank you by continuing our work to improve the site and keep posting that news as fast as possible in the way which we have attempted since day one. Packing in more features than you can shake a shabby stick at, we will forever strive to be not only your favourite DS-Site on the web but also your favourite site in general to visit.

Long may the retrobution continue, I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed telling you about it and I look forward to continuing what I do for a good while yet to come at least.
