Being an avid fan of PSO2, yesterdays conference has me chomping at the bit to get my hands on this long awaited sequel to the original PSO. There were a plethora of screenshots and videos released which imo just look amazing when compared to the crap that was PSU. So what's everyones opinions on this and will it be something you will be waiting for with as much anticipation as I am?
Ha! Ha! Haaaaaa! My new laptop will be able to run this! Without frying its own battery, at that! I'm not too big of a fan of MMORPGs though. Exactly how much grinding's involved in PSO? And how many quests like "Get 50 of these rare drops from these rare monsters" where you got to fight off 20 kill-stealers and 40 people trying to kill that one monster that spawns every 5 minutes for that very same quest?

Quite a bit of grinding, but surprisingly, the game always keeps on being fun to play. Regarding quests, they're more like "Defeat X number of X monster". There's other kinds of quests as well, of course, but no quest is ever of the impossible kind. Some quests are tougher than others, but that's only logical.
In the most recent PSP versions of the game, they made it so you all get your own drops. PSO is more like you find a rare drop then it's normally usable straight away, there was never really much forging or whatever going on and it's very much pick-up-and-play. With all this said though, the new PSO looks completely different from the previous games. It should be interesting to see how they cater for the PSO purists as all that seems to be there so far is the character designs, the gameplay has been ripped apart.
The game is being created partly by the team that made Infinity and believe me that's a good thing. I am sure you can expect plenty of missions with multiple mini bosses like our friend the rock bear in these vids and I am sure he is bound to drop a fair few nice rare type items to make you want to keep hunting him.
There were hints of "infinite universes" at the end of infinity so I think there will probably be some kind of mission forging system similar to that found in infinity. You complete missions to earn points and once you have enough points you can merge 2 missions together to create a new one. There's also requirements to create certain missions and if you succeed then you can earn rare items to upgrade your weapons. I can imagine them doing something more with this idea and expanding it further, the PSP has limitations after all. Trading these missions with friends is also part of the "infinite" fun.
This should be awesome, I hope some people from here will be able\willing to join me in playing the beta when it is available

So... granny needs a new walking cane + little boy is looking for a ball == middle-aged gay guy is looking for a... ahummmmm... odd system.
It's more like you have a mission with one area and a boss then you complete another mission in a different area with a different boss. When you merge the 2 missions you get enemies from both missions, the area will be either from the first mission or the second and you will also get one of the bosses.
On top of this some of the missions you create can have hidden properties (like a certain rare enemy appears or something).
The rewards work by making certain missions (a specific area with the specified enemies and boss). Once you complete the mission you get a "treasure" which can be used with other "treasures" to trade for uber items to upgrade your weapons etc. It's kinda hard to do in Japanese so I have yet to finish any of these on infinity. I can imagine this working pretty much the same in PSO2.
I still don't understand much of it So basically, missions create areas. Eg. one mission creates a fire region, so you better prepare to fight fire monsters. Another mission creates an ice region, so you better prepare to fight ice monsters. If you combine both missions, you'll have an area with both fire and ice monsters, making it alot more difficult to prepare to fight them, and due to the added risk, the reward is increased? Or do you get the reward of both missions, and afterwards there's some NPC or player market or such where you can sell them and buy better stuff with the profits?
