OK, you´ve got me. Since Foxi and you mentioned how easy it has become to crack one´s PSP I´ve been sort of tempted to finally do it.
So, what do I need to do? I´ve just recently bought a new 3000, do I need to find out which board I have? It´s on most recent firmware methinks, so can I even crack it? Is there an easy to follow guide you could recommend?

Comment on: PSP 6.XX PRO-B10 CFW has been released!
The PRO CFW works on all PSP models, and I believe the latest official PSP firmware is 6.60, which means you should be able to hack yours. However, I'm not entirely sure if you will be able to have it as a permanent hack, but as long as you don't turn off your PSP (putting it in standby mode isn't a problem, though), everything should be fine. Not that it makes that much of a difference, as reinstalling the temporary hack is only a matter of seconds.
There's a short, nevertheless useful, installation guide on the Google Code page.
I planned on writing a guide for this ages ago, but eventually ended up abandoning that idea, simply because my guide ended up being more complicated than the 'official' one, lol.

Well installation guides are as simple as just copying the LCFW eboot to your card nowadays. It takes minutes including download time. PROUPDATE is the important folder you want in your PSP/GAME folder and it should boot straight off the bat
1. Download OFW 6.20 online, put it on your memory card in PSP/GAME/UPDATE. Boot up the PSP and install it. 2. Download the CFW (6.20 in this case), use the Updater, first test, then install the CFW (You put the folders in PSP/GAME). 3. Finally, use the Permanent Patch.
6.21 or later:
1. Download OFW 6.60 online, install it. 2. Use the 6.60 PRO Updater, install the CFW. 3. By stock, the PSP will always boot to OFW, to turn CFW on, boot the Fast Recovery application which is in the package.
There is a way to make the 6.60 hack permanent, but you have to use CIPL flasher. The alternative is downgrading. As far as I know, 6.60+ Firmwares are not hacked just yet.
...so, what's your firmware?

Perfectly possible, CFW hides your MAC adress. You're basically un-bannable. There aren't many Multiplayer games though, so prepare to use X-Link Kai. Alot. That, or PS3 Ad-Hoc Party.
You should update to 6.60 - the only differences are regarding stability, and you can still do the Permanent Hack anyways. From what I've read right now CIPL Flashing has been reduced from a painful operation to pressing X and waiting 5 seconds, so it's easy as pie. Update to 6.60 OFW (easily googlable, I can PM you links if you want), Update PRO CFW, CIPL Flash, done.
A little bit off-topic, but I'll recommend you a few good Plugins and Apps seeing that you're new to the platform:
RemoteJoy v20 (Play your PSP games on a monitor using mini-USB) Popsloader (Enhance your Playstation (PSX) compatibility) Audioboost (Improve maximal volume if you feel your PSP is a bit too quiet. Improves it by about 20%) Mp3Play (Play MP3's while in-game, normally unavailable)
Recommended Homebrew:
Xplora (File explorer, text editor - a must when you're on-the-go, and it's less complicated then the more popular Filer) Netfront 4 Beta (*Massively* improved stock web browser, now using all of the RAM rather than just 2Mb) Go!Tube 1.2 HMM (Youtube in your pocket, among other streaming sites)
I usually don't leave my cozy gaming grotto without those loaded up, really helpful tools, worth the download.

...I just realized you have a 3000 model, not a 2000 like I originally read. CIPL Flasher will refuse to work when booted.
Guess you'll have to use Fast Recovery afterall, seeing that there is no permanent patch for 6.39 OR 6.60 for 2g+ mainboards (anything older than a PSP-2000), but I'm sure they'll find a solution eventually.
