Hi guys!

I'm wondering how I can mod my Wii to allow the latest games/channels/apps to work. I know the Wii has been out for quite a few years now, so I was hoping an experienced community like you guys could help me mod mine. I'm hoping there was a very up-to-date way of doing this, seeing as how new games and Wii programs have such extreme anti-piracy.

Would it still be possible for my Wii to go online after being modded? I was hoping that I could get into using the Wiishop/News/Weather channel, and use online multiplayer for the games.

I'm also hoping that modding my Wii doesn't make it so that touching the wrong button leads to a brick, because I have a couple of younger siblings that play with it as well. Although they understand not to tamper with deep system files, there may accedentaly misclick a button on the Wii Menu Screen and unknowingly change something important. Modding the Wii won't make anything super delicate like this, will it?

Sorry for the newbie questions...

Modding your Wii can cause a brick. Kids can disable your system completely. I'm sorry.

Anyway, a Wii costs ~130 Euros now. If that would happen - and chances that this will happen are very low - you'd throw your Wii away and buy a new one. Your games are save on your HDD and NAND, and you should make a backup of your NAND once in a while anyway.

I updated my Wii to 4.3E and started modding them. That's the easiest way. Use Letterbomb to get the homebrew channel, and then you install some stuff. That takes ~30 minutes.

I'm sure Kiekoes will post you a tutorial, he wrote one. Don't worry, it's not difficult. Even a retard like me can do that.   wink

Use ModMii. It's an interactive download wizard for your Windows PC. It downloads every file you'll need to softmod your Wii and sets up an SD card for you, bricking is *almost* impossible. This sets up your Wii completely stable and internet enabled. Firmware version doesn't matter. Project homepage is HERE. Go to the download section and get the latest version (4.8.2 atm).

Short Tutorial from wiihacks.com

And if you set up the SD card correctly afterwards (just put the basic loaders etc on it) there is no chance of your younger siblings f*ing up your Wii.

Kids can remove or delete the homebrew channel.

That's not a big deal on 4.3 anymore thanks to Letterbomb, but before that, that was a problem.
