Yeah how does the mp actually work? My brother picked it up too but we didn't know what to do regarding multiplayer.
Multiplayer is accessed from the cat captain in the village, he should be right under the item shop I believe. Not really sure how it all works, I know no one around with a 3DS, much less Monster Hunter. I ran across someone at my school today who played it, so not I just have to hunt them down... If all else fails there's likely a video or tutorial somewhere.
Anyway, picked the game up the day it dropped, happened to be the day that I left on vacation, so not much was done there. Still, love it so far, and it's just kept on getting better!
Playing it on Wii U at the moment but I just ordered the 3DS one today to help increase my gathering time...
I am on my way to getting some of my Wii weapons back but the new enemies are making me want to hunt their sets. I'll be interested in playing it with you guys once my 3DS copy arrives. My code is on my profile, just send me a pm if you add me so I can add you.
The confusing part about multi player is that you can play the missions solo this time around. The main thing people will be wanting is the "network play" option when you talk to the cat, otherwise just check out the solo mission and go to the docks to get your bearings.
I haven't been to the tavern yet but I am guessing that's just the old "lobby" from the Wii version. You can HR up on your own this time around it seems (hence the solo option), which is nice when you feel like chilling on your own for a bit. I've not levelled up online but I'm guessing the HR level is the same in solo and multi modes.
Oh and basically for multi player:
Enter tavern or docks
Select a mission from the counter
Other players join your mission from the bill-board, not from the counter
Everyone except the leader must stand ready to depart and press the button to ring the bell (icon starts flashing)
When everyone is ready the leader starts the quest
Basically you can have 4 people in a room but 3 can be playing one mission and one can be gathering on a different mission.

Hmm yeah I didn't even think about it you know. I just assumed it was as that's the type of game it is but it seems like it's local only. I guess you can scrub my comment about 3DS friend codes.
If anyone wants to play on the Wii U then send me a pm though. I am disappointed to hear it's not online but I should have investigated a bit further before buying it. I'll still play it for gathering and helping the missus when she wants the Wii U though so I'm not devastated.
