The MT-Card got a new hardware revision and is now a better card than the original version. The features have been improved and new ones have been added. The biggest feature is, of course, the multi-ROM support. Meaning you can have multiple 3DS ROM files on a single microSD.
With the new hardware, the card also got a visual overhaul. The new logo and packaging looks more professional in my opinion. The cards still come in a plastic blister, but this one is better designed and works better. You have two separate slots that you can open and close easily.
This card, like all current 3DS flash kits, needs 3DS firmware 4.1 to 4.5 to work. This is because the current exploit only supports those firmwares. This is a big con, because a lot of people will not be able to use it because they already updated their device for the newest games (newer games need certain firmware to launch). I used firmware 4.4 to write this review.
- Play 3DS backups on both 3DS and 3DS XL if you have the correct firmware
- Play NDS backups on the blue MT-Card
- MultiROM support
The MT-Card comes with two cards: the black one is a normal NDS flash card and the white one is the actual card to play 3DS games with. The black card starts as a SpongeBob game. You will need the black card to prepare your 3DS for the white card. This is done with a special MT-INSTALLER.nds file. Once you did that you will need to download the actual 3DS firmware exploit file and place it on the 3DS's SD card. Now you can enter the exploit mode through the System Settings and the 3DS is ready for the use of the MT-Card. The cards themselves are probably exactly the same as the original version, only the hardware inside has been changed.
When you've set up your 3DS you can just drag and drop 3DS ROMs to your microSD and start playing!
The MT-Card also has a microUSB port, with which you can connect it to your computer. This is for upgrading the the firmware of the card itself. The newer firmware versions come with an executable program which will update the card when you connect it to your computer.
As you can see, the MT-Card also has a little button on top of the card. After you've selected a ROM from your microSD card and you've launched the 3DS menu, you can press that button to cycle through the games on the microSD.

As you can see, the card has a pretty much perfect 3DS ROM compatibility. Even the very problematic games (Pokémon X/Y, Zelda and Monster Hunter 4) now work without any problems.
The build quality of the white card is really good. It even has two tiny screws in it to hold it together. The white card is also a real 3DS card, just like the Gateway 3DS. Unfortunately it doesn't have a springloaded microSD slot. Now you will need to take out the whole cartridge to take out the microSD, which will quickly wear the gold contacts of the card. With a springloaded microSD slot you can just pop out the microSDs with your fingernail.
The UI got a visual overhaul too. And that is great. The first version looked cheap and ugly, as to this version looks great. When you start the card with the exploit you will be greeted with a menu in which you have several options.
- Go MT Card Mode - Which will send you to the 3DS menu after selecting a game.
- Go Classic Mode - Which will just bring you back to the 3DS menu.
- Select Game - Which will bring you to the list of games on the microSD.
- Backup NAND - A tool for backing up you system's NAND.
- Format emuNAND - A tool for formatting the emuNAND.
When you select ROM you will go back to the main menu again, then you'll have to launch Go Menu to go to the 3DS menu to play the games.
The NAND and emuNAND features are new in this release. I haven't tested them, because I don't exactly know how to do it and I don't want to ruin my 3DS. If I ever find out how I can (easily) backup my NAND and use emuNAND I will add another part to this review, but for now this will go untested.
The new MT-Card is a great alternative to the Gateway 3DS. It has pretty much perfect 3DS ROM compatibility and MultiROM support.
Pro's:
- MultiROM support
- Amazing 3DS ROM compatibility
- Bundled with NDS flashcard
- Bypasses the regionlock
- Skips update sections of games
Cons:
- Non springloaded microSD slot
- Only useable on 3DS firmware 4.1.x - 4.5.x
- Limited online play
- Profile settings exploit must be used again when you turn the 3DS off
