Hey guys, so this is Velocifaptor, and this is my first time on the forum, so please bear with me if I make any faux-pas or ramble too much. I've been interested in Nintendo DS homebrew for quite some time. I bought a Nintendo DS Lite in 2006, which broke a year or two ago, and before that happened, I used to play games like Digimon World DS, Trauma Center: Under the Knife and Pokemon Diamond off a flashcart called DS Linker  :playlite:
Back then, of course, the 3DS hadn't been introduced, so I got interested in the homebrew scene when I learnt of Moonshell. From what I've read on the internet, it far less taxing (though by no means easy) to develop games for the DS/DSi, than for the Nintendo Wii (*sigh*). devkitPro is an unofficial developer's kit for developing homebrew DS software, and James Garner created DS Game Maker for simple, 2D games. Now, my question is this: There are a lot of people developing hacked versions of Pokemon games, but it seems nobody is interested in attempting to do the same for Digimon Story games. Is it even possible to create a modified version of a Digimon Story game? I mean, the dynamics of the game are pretty much the same - Tamer gets a Digimon, raises it, said Digimon Digivolves, Tamer battles bosses, NPCs and wild Digimon, gets Scan Data/DigiMelodies, Digiconverts the Digimon from 100% or more Scan Data, raises more Digimon on a DigiFarm, completes Quests, plays through the story, and eventually ends the game. It's pretty much straightforward (except probably in Super Xros Wars Blue and Red, because there is the additional element of DigiXros). So is it not farfetched to think that such a thing could be attempted? Has such a thing been done before? Is it being done right now? And if yes, could you guys give me some pointers, or lead me in the right direction? My goal is to create a game with the elements of DigiXros, Armor Evolution and Jogress integrated into an original story, to create a basic Digimon RPG. Please note, that I'm  a n00b at programming, and the best I've done is not even programming, it's hacking Pokemon games. However, I have moderate experience in music production, and am an enthusiast deejay, and can thus provide the entire soundtrack for the game. I'm also a very creative person, when it comes to literature. I can, to a certain extent, provide a little bit of blueprint concept art too (for e.g., I can draw the primary 8 crests and one or two Digimentals freehand). However, other than that, you can pretty much say that I'm a useless, lousy berk. So if you guys know anywhere I can look to learn the ropes, or get a team together for this game, or, if you're interested in helping me develop the game, please let me know. Any kind of help or feedback is appreciated. Thanks  :yaylite:

Short version: Possible yes, likely no

Long version:
Pokemon generally has a lot more love and fanship behind it especially when it comes to English users. With a smaller fan base means that less users are developing things for Digimon and ultimately there are less tools available. However as you mentioned there is Ds game maker or devkitpro that assist in making homebrew. For this you would therefore have to know a fairly large amount of coding though, designing menu screens, party screens, saving, loading, battles, battle mechanics and basic animations. All of this is highly possible but due to your self said that are new to programming it would take a decent amount of effort to get to a point in programming that would be able to achieve a Digimon game. So yes you could make a homebrew of it but is probably going to take a lot of time, effort and learning.

If you aren't so set on working on homebrew on the ds and instead just working on a digimon project you might be interested in pokemon edits that have included digimon instead of pokemon. For example Digimon Firered but a google search will find you a bunch more.

Regardless, good luck to you.

So the other day I was on the WtW forum where a developer had posted about his own fan game Digimon World Ace: The Lost Symbols, being made using RPG Maker VX for the PC. Wouldn't it be simpler to learn how to make the game using RPGMVXA and then port it to the DS using devkitPro/DS Game Maker? Is that even possible?

Not really.
DS Game Maker has nothing in common with RPG Maker VX, you would need to reprogram everything making all the work you made on RPGMVX useless.
As for devkitPro, it only lets you develop for DS with some base libraries.
You may use it to create some engine from the ground up, let's say, you own version of a completely new RPG maker of your own.
It may take a couple of years to complete for one person that has to learn to program.

PS: Why don't you try making it directly on the DS, using RPG Maker DS+. I haven't used it, so I don't know how limited it is, but it may or may not be OK for you.

Whoa~ that topic wasn't expected by me. (Altough I should have expected it...my fault).

Anyway~
I still remember coding for DS and I can say that RPG Maker can go and [beep] itself in depths of hell. It is good tool to learn how to make a game to make it good, to get the idea for the final product. However if we are talking about making a game (homebrew of course) for a console, portable to add, only coding goes there, accept no substitutes.
Now after all this big talk there will be questions like "oh yeah? so can you make it?". I cannot say I can make it for sure but I can try to make it with some people willing to help. Of course a lot depends on the type of the game, access to some graphics (or someone who can make them from scratch but not sure if that's necessary here) &c.
I remember playing few titles like Digimon World 3 (PS), Digimon World DS (DS), Digimon World Dawn/Dusk (DS) and probably some others in that style, RPG style.
That type of the game I would gladly try my best to make it happen, I have only one condition for it, Renamon is playable (well as "catchable" I mean obviously).

Phew there we go, Subaru makes another wall of text, duh!
