Hi, long time member but have been gone for a while.

I've had the New 3DS XL since it was released in Europe. Already own 9 carts and a few dozen games and apps downloaded from the eshop. :playlite:  Don't care about 3DS ROMs or homebrew.

So far I've been playing the DS games I've got on cart (and have gotten around a dozen new ones), but I'd like a flashcart for convenience and to play the games I don't have that are rare and expensive plus the ones I can't have, like the Suikoden Tierkreis UNDUB and fan translations like Love Plus.

I've got the R4i 3DS which I've read doesn't work anymore (but works great on my DS Lite which is what I got it for), but besides which flashcart is the best to get I've got some more questions.

1) Is it safe? Like is it 100% perfectly safe? Is it the case of "Oh no, the new3DS firmware came out, I better check on the Internet so I don't get bricked" (which would be terrible) or "damn, now that I've installed the new firmware I've got to wait God knows how long for a new flashcart update" (which is a much lesser problem), cause I don't ever plan to skip updating my 3DS.

2) What does the log in the 3DS show? Does it show the exact game and exact time I've been playing? Or does it not show anything?

3) would it be wise to stop sharing info with Nintendo about what I've been doing on my 3DS (data collecting)?

4) Is the solution pretty much permanent? Will the cart ever stop working or not be updatable? I know this takes some fortune telling, so just tell me what do you think are the odds.

And if you could tell me where is the best place to order a flashcart from (if I can ask that here) that would be nice as well.

Thank you. :)

I can only partly answer your questions as I'm not really up to date with the latest state of 3DS hax, to put it lightly.

I believe the log just shows the game the flashcard is pretending to be, so if your flashcard says it is "Spongebob Squarepants", the log will show Spongebob Squarepants, regardless of which game you are actually playing on the card. As such, I think it doesn't particularly matter whether you share data or not if you're afraid they would find out. That said, I always disable data sharing anyway because it doesn't serve any real purpose.

It's never 100% safe, as you maybe remember from many years ago (time sure flies) some DS flashcard teams bricked the devices of people who bought knockoff versions of their flashcards. I think the same thing happened, again several years ago now, with one of the 3DS flashcard teams bricking devices of people who got fake versions of the flashcard. These are really exceptions, though.

It used to be that the flashcard could stop working after any firmware update, but I have no idea if this is still the case or if some kind of solution has been found to make sure the cards theoretically work forever.

Taking a quick look I found that the SuperCard team is now making a 3DS-compatible flashcard (DSTWO Plus). I've always been a fan of their products, so if I had to make an uninformed purchase, I'd probably pick them. I would suggest you ask these questions on another, more active website though, as it's probably not a good idea to follow the advice of someone who hasn't seen a flashcard in years.

Doviđenja!

Thanks for the answers. :)

The DSTWO PLUS isn't necessary for me, as I said I don't plan on running 3DS ROMs, and Nintendo will probably target the card. Apparently the regular DSTWO works just fine, so that one's still interesting.

From what I read in the meantime it seems the r4i Gold 3DS with the Wood firmware is the best combo. And it isn't expensive either.

Thanks, will try to find a good European reseller for one of those. :)
