[User Posted Image]NiNTENDO ANNOUNCES FiRST ANNUAL LOSS
FRANKLY, MY DEAR, NO ONE REALLY GiVES A DAMN (BUT THE HATERS)

As a result of terrible Wii sales (everyone and their grandmothers already owned a Wii by the end of 2010), a strong yen and selling the 3DS at a loss, Nintendo reported their first annual loss in 30 years. Surprisingly, it isn't nearly as much as they had expected ($800m vs $533m), but 533 million dollars is still a lot of money. Is this the end of the line for Nintendo? Of course not! The 3DS is the fastest selling handheld of all time, and with many wonderful games on the horizon, it's got a bright future ahead of it. The Wii U is also supposed to be released end of this year, though we'll hear more about that when E3 hits again.

But hey, what do I know, Nintendo are doomed!

3DS will stop selling at a loss because the manufacturing costs will be lower, I presume. Don't think that they will raise the price now.
Also, they seem to know what they are doing. Who cares if there will be 2 Mario games on a single console in one year? We get more good games, they get more money.
And really, it's not that big of a deal. Sony has been selling hardware at a loss for a lot of time and they are still doing well.

They're 123 years old, is this really their first negative year?

Anyways, once there are enough games out for the 3DS, the consoles should pay for themselves, I guess. When's the WiiU released, Christmas season?

And here I was thinking of buying a Wii once all other costs are done with and there'd be money left (which reminds me, gotta post some pics in the "recently bought" thread once I got some pics). That would've saved them for sure!

But seriously, it's a bit of a pain to see them with a loss =/

I never understood why consoles and handhelds went from cardridges to CDs / DVDs and typical Flash memory. There wasn't by far such a big problem back in the NES / SNES days, as it was just hard as shit to copy games onto such a cardridge. Then they switch to a medium everybody and their mom can write to, and all of a sudden are surprised their games get copied. Don't cry that someone comes into your door if you leave the key under your doormat.

The attachment rate of the 3DS could be a bit higher but that's to be expected, considering that most of the must-own games have started to come out only about 6 months ago.
