Gateway have released a statement about the 7.x encryption. With "certainty", 7.x games and applications will be able to be ran at their labs in good time.
Clarification: This does not mean the Gateway will work on 7.x firmwares, but will be able to run games that do not work (Pokemon Art Academy, Tomodachi Life).
STATUS UPDATE 7.x
We have recently reached a major milestone regarding the 7.x encryption. We can say with certainty that we will soon be running 7.x games and 7.x applications (like eShop, PokeBank and YouTube) in our labs.
We can already say that this will be possible with the current gateway hardware and will be supported in the form of a regular firmware update.
Some people might think we’re overcautious with releasing new firmware updates and holding stuff back.
But we would like to reiterate once again that quality assurance and smooth product experience is on the top of our lists. We really take our time to test everything as much as we can.
There’s a bunch of other (interesting) developments going on besides the 7.x encryption fix at the moment; but we will brief you guys about them in a later (more lengthy) news update. Most questions we get at the moment are 7.x related, so this one will be released out as soon as possible.
Do I get it properly... By 7.x they mean that 3DS with 7.x software already installed will be able to finally eat the Gateway and run it? If so that would be very good, Region Free \o/

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it means that they got through the newest 7.x encryption, not that the firmware will run natively on 7.x. I think you will still need 4.1-4.5.
Wow Nintendo is holding pretty good then, if not that little bug they detected, we would probably still be without any "Gateways" and that would be freaking awesome (somewhat). After all PS1 and PS2 was "hacked" after 2 hours after launch... PS3 trully was hacked pretty fast too, just people wasn't trying for long time...
