Rise of the Triad DS is a port of the PC game by the same name. Created by thedopefish, this version fully supports the shareware wad (included) or if you own the full game then you can use that with the "registered" .nds.
Quote
Recent Changes:
* Sound effects are now fully supported. * Music is now supported, with caveats. ROTTDS cannot (currently) play the game's music natively; however you can extract the music files from the game, convert them to ADPCM on your PC, and place the resulting files in your /rott/ directory, and ROTTDS will play them. I'm providing a music package containing the shareware music in ADPCM format. See the README.NDS file for more info.
Limitations:
* Music requires extra work, and has some glitches. * No network support.
Changes for Version 0.4:
* The registered version is now supported. You must supply your own DARKWAR.WAD, DARKWAR.RTL, and DARKWAR.RTC files. * Customize Keyboard screen now displays names of DS controls, for easier remapping. * Note: I made a minor change to the default control mapping; delete your CONFIG.ROT file and the game will auto-generate a new one.
I remember when the demo for the pc version of this game was released one Xmas eve (don't remember the year). This was by far the baddest fps of its time, the first big evolution from doom (followed then by Duke Nukem 3d). It is suprising how well this game actually hold up. I remember playing tons of 1 on 1 multiplayer at 14.4 baud <g>. I hope the author is eventually able to add multiplayer. Other than that, this port is excellent. The addition of sound, music and full version support puts it over the top. Kudos to the author, great job - please keep going on this!
The sound is pretty glitchy for me on my R4, dunno if thats down to slowish microSD though. Didn't try the music. Big improvement from previous release though! Excellent work
I loved this game when I was younger. Not much on using cheat codes these days but for that game you actually get the hand of god which was awesome to watch, ball of light just bounces around the entire area killing everything even around corners I'll have to give this game a try

Damn, I wish I had the permissions to start a new topic instead of replying to one here, but it's related.
I'm curious, seeing how there are ports from: Rise of the Triad Duke Nukem 3D Quake Doom Descent
does anyone know if there is (or will be) a Redneck Rampage port out? That game was a lot of fun, blowing up rednecks.
as far as I know all the games you listed have been open sourced...however Redneck Rampage I'm not too sure, I am aware that Shadow Warrior is open sourced and since Duke3D has been ported I'm sure SW could be done the same way 'hint-hint-wink-wink-nudge-nudge' to the coders out there
or is something like that out already? maybe I need to look around the site before posting random possible hopes and dreams.... :'(
Yeah, I would actually pay a lot of money to have SW running perfectly on the DS with Wangbang and user-created map support. Like, I would pay way more than the cost of a regular DS game. But more to the point...
I've tried 0.4 and 0.5, and RoTT for DS remains the ONLY DS homebrew I haven't been able to get working on my EZV. If I don't DLDI patch it it won't even see my media, and if I do DLDI patch it I get a normal-looking loading screen except under Shareware Verion it says "StartupSoftError()" and then "CheckCommandLineParameters()". The last line on-screen is "BuiltTables()". Any idea why this isn't working for me? I have the .nds and the rott directory in the root of my TF card.

first off, impressive homebrew I'm just in awwww thats all I gotta say....ok if you are trying the registered version make sure you DLDI patch the rottds_registered.nds and place it in your root directory and in the rott folder in the root of your card this is what should be listed, and yes you'll get sound error reports:
hopefully this is helpful, since you are using the shareware version I'll give that one a go and help there. I basically just followed what the readme.nds said to place in the directory
update: here is what the rott folder should look like for your shareware game and of course DLDI patch like ya did and put it in your root directory
